That’s odd. Try downloading the driver itself and not doing it via GeForce Experience:
nvidia.com
Download the latest official NVIDIA drivers

During the install process select a custom installation. Next be sure to check the box for “Clean Installation” that will show up during the process. Restart the system once it finishes installing.
