Online vs offline confusion

If you have an internet connection and are connected to the Battle.net desktop app, then launch Diablo II Resurrected, that “validates” the game as having been online. This lasts for 30 days from the last time you connected.

Before those 30 days are up, if you don’t have an internet connection (no wifi or ethernet connected) you can launch the Battle.net desktop app, continue in offline mode, and then you should be able to launch Diablo II Resurrected to play in offline mode with offline characters.
