Game Crashed and now a character is gone
Howdy!
Diablo II: Resurrected saves data as you play and when you exit the client. If a crash occurred while the game was saving data that may have corrupted your local saved data. Sadly given these are not online characters unless you backed them up, we have no way to restore them. You would need to start with new characters.
So what can we do? First I want to go over making sure you are aware of how to back up your single-player data:
- Use File Explorer to navigate to C:\Users(Your PC Username)\Saved Games
- You can copy the Diablo II: Resurrected folder at this location. Then paste it elsewhere in the event you need such as an external hard drive, USB, or store it on another PC in the home. Another option is to copy and paste the folder to the cloud such as OneDrive or Google Drive.
Doing this every few weeks is a good way to offer peace of mind that if this occurred again not too much would be lost.
The second priority is to fix the source of the crash. I recommend reviewing our troubleshooting for this Here. If crashes were to continue more information on what occurs when the game crashes such as does the PC lock up, do you see any errors or does the game disappear to your desktop with no errors would be helpful. Along with seeing your Msinfo would help us find the source. You can upload the Msinfo to a site such as Pastebin.com - #1 paste tool since 2002! Link it back here within the code below:

I understand this was not the best news but it is the right path forward to avoiding this from occurring again.
