Valkyrie

Summons a powerful Valkyrie ally.

Valkyrie is a level 30 Amazon summon (Passive and Magic tree, requires Decoy and Evade; it unlocks nothing). It calls a spear-maiden who fights beside the Amazon with her own weapon, armour and passives, one at a time (petmax 1). The numbers that decide her are the Strength, 25 a level and the source of her damage bonus, and the two synergies that lend her the Amazon's hard points in Decoy and Penetrate.

The numbers

• Damage on the tooltip is Param2 × (level − 1), +475% at level 20. The row gives her Strength as lvl × par2 (aurastat1), 25 a level from level 1, and the Basin's page explains the link: her weapons carry a 100 Strength bonus, so each point of Strength is +1% damage, and the tooltip shows 25% less than she really gets. Her true bonus is 25 × level: +500% at level 20.
• Dexterity is lvl × par4, 12 a level (aurastat2), not on the tooltip; by the Basin's page it adds 5 attack rating a point and a quarter of a point of defense.
• Defense is Param3 10% per level above 1, +190% at level 20 (passivestat1 item_armor_percent).
• Attack Rating is ToHitCalc, 40 × lvl + 40 × Penetrate hard points: 800 at level 20 with no Penetrate. The tooltip prints it with a percent sign, but the row applies it as flat attack rating (passivestat2 tohit), and the Basin's formula adds it as flat too, to 250, 300 or 350 by difficulty, her monster level's entry and 5 × Dexterity.
• Life is calc1, 20 × (level − 1) + 20 × Decoy hard points percent (Param1 and Param8); that tooltip line reads another skill's points, which the repo's bank cannot compute, so it is not in the table. The Basin's page gives the base as 400–480 and lists 1,920–2,304 at level 20 without Decoy, with the +% life applied before Battle Orders and Oak Sage.
• Resistances are min((lvl + Decoy hard points) × 2, 85) to fire, lightning, cold and poison (aurastat3–6, Param7 2): 40% at level 20 alone, 80% with 20 hard points in Decoy, capped at 85.
• Item level is calc2, ln56: Param5 25 plus Param6 3 a level, 82 at level 20; the Basin's page caps it at 99.
• Mana is 25 at level 1 and 1 more a level (mana 25, lvlmana 1): 44 at level 20. The casting delay is a constant 0.6 seconds (localdelay 15 frames ÷ 25); the Basin's page records the old game's 6 seconds.

Every tooltip line reads lvl; the three synergy terms read blvl. She can be cast in town (InTown 1).

How it works

Valkyrie is a cast with a Casting Speed delay, and the summon is a pet of type valkyrie in the neutral stance. The row lends her four of the Amazon's passives at the caster's base level: Dodge, Avoid, Evade and Critical Strike (sumskill1–4, each skill('…'.blvl)); the Basin's page says the same. The row also copies the Amazon's sundered immunities to her (passivestat3–7, the five item_pierce_…_immunity stats), which the Basin's page lists as a Diablo II: Resurrected addition.

The Basin's page gives her a 5% critical hit of her own that doubles all damage types and is not exclusive of Critical Strike: the chance to at least double physical damage is 5 + 95 × CS ÷ 100. Her monster level is min([0.75 × clvl] + slvl, clvl), her melee range is 1–3 whatever she wields, she regenerates 12 damage, leech does nothing to her (drain effectiveness 0) and chill works at half strength (−50).

By the Basin's page she equips items by skill level: a Spear at 1, a Lance at 8 and a War Pike at 17; Full Plate Mail at 1, Chaos Armor at 7 and Sacred Armor at 16; gloves, boots, belt, an amulet from 13 and a circlet from 14. The item level above sets their affixes, and resistance affixes can make her immune without it being displayed.

Synergies and +skills

Two synergy lines: Decoy, +20% life per level (Param8, in calc1) and Penetrate, +40% attack rating per level (the second term of ToHitCalc); Decoy's hard points also raise her resistances through Param7. All three read blvl. No skill reads Valkyrie's points. The Basin's page lists her outside the Amazon on Harmony (+2–6 as an oskill, which it marks as the old game only) and Peace (15% chance to cast a level 2 Valkyrie on striking).

Against players

A player's hit on another player is cut to 17% of its value (difficultylevels.txt PlayerDamagePercentVSPlayer) before anything else, see Player versus Player; the Valkyrie's own hits are a pet's, not the Amazon's. The Basin's page says nothing about this skill against players.

Build notes

• Level 20: +500% damage, +190% defense, 800 attack rating from the line, 40% resistances, 44 mana.
• Decoy is the synergy worth most: each hard point is +20% life and +2% to all four resistances, and both read hard points only. Penetrate's 40 attack rating a point is flat, next to the 5 a point her own Dexterity gives.
• Her Dodge, Avoid, Evade and Critical Strike are the Amazon's hard points; +skills from items do not reach them.
• Past level 20, +skills keep buying 25 Strength, 12 Dexterity, 10% defense, 40 attack rating and 1 mana a level.
