+X% Chance of Crushing BlowCBReduced against players
Crushing Blow is a chance, on each physical hit, to take away a fraction of the target's current life, applied before the hit's own damage. It is strongest on the first hit of a fight and weakest at the end, and it is the reason a Smiter or a kicker with 100% Crushing Blow takes a boss from full to a sliver in a few hits regardless of weapon damage.
| Target | Melee | Ranged |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary monsters | 1/4 of current life | 1/8 |
| Super uniques and act bosses | 1/8 | 1/16 |
| Players and mercenaries | 1/10 | 1/20 |
A ranged attack always halves the fraction. The percentage on your gear is the chance; a chance above 100% is wasted.
life removed = current life × fraction ÷ (0.5 + 0.5 × players) × (100 − physical resistance) ÷ 100, then the hit's own damage
Against monsters the fraction is divided by 0.5 + 0.5 × players: at players 8 a melee Crushing Blow takes 1/4 ÷ 4.5, about 5.6% of current life. The target's physical resistance reduces it (a physical immune takes none until the immunity is broken), but a negative resistance does not increase it, and the Basin notes that a player's 50% damage reduction cap does not apply to it.
Crushing Blow is not doubled by Deadly Strike and not absorbed by Energy Shield; it needs a hit that lands (Chance to Hit). On a boss its value is front-loaded: pair it with Open Wounds and real damage for the end of the fight.

Magic affixes are the ones that can spawn; a runeword's line includes what its runes add in that slot. “LoD 1.14d” is the value in classic Diablo II's last patch where it differs (uniques, set items, runewords' own bonuses, runes and gems; from blizzhackers/d2data); a D2R chip marks what 1.14d did not have. “Strongest” ranks items by the top of their roll range. · Report incorrect data
