Raise all resistances and resist curses for a period of time.
Fade is a Shadow Disciplines buff (level 18, requires Burst of Speed; it unlocks Venom). Cast on the Assassin herself, it puts a state on her that raises all four elemental resistances, cuts the physical damage she takes by a flat percentage, and shortens every curse that lands on her. Two numbers decide it: the resistance bonus, which climbs fast and then flattens toward a cap of 75, and the physical damage reduction, which is simply 1% a level with no cap on the tooltip.

Mana is a flat 10 at every level (mana 10, lvlmana 0), and the skill can be cast in town (InTown 1).
ln56: Param5 (3,000 frames) plus Param6 (300 frames) a level, divided by 25 frames a second: 120 seconds at level 1, 12 seconds more a level, 348 seconds at level 20 and 468 at level 30.dm12, a diminishing curve that runs from Param1 (10%, the "Elemental Resistance % Min") toward Param2 (75%, the "Max"). The same calc feeds fire, cold, lightning and poison (aurastat1–4), so it is one number: 19% at level 1, 42% at level 5, 54% at level 10, 64% at level 20, 69% at level 30. The Basin's page prints the formula as 10 + 65 × [110 × level ÷ (level + 6)] ÷ 100, capped at 75, and its level table matches the evaluator's values exactly.ln78: Param7 (1%) plus Param8 (1%) a level, so level = percent: 20% at level 20, 30% at level 30. It is applied through the damageresist stat (aurastat6), the same stat the Physical Damage Reduction page covers.dm34, the same diminishing curve from Param3 (40%) toward Param4 (90%): 47% at level 1, 82% at level 20, 85% at level 30.All four lines read the skill's own level, so +skills from items count toward every one of them; there is no blvl line on this skill. The row also carries a passive stat "fade" with a constant value of 2, which marks the state and never changes.
Fade is a personal buff: its state (aurastate "fade") lasts ln56 frames and is refreshed by recasting. The Basin's page says a recast always overrides the previous cast, even when the new cast is a lower level, and that Fade cannot be active at the same time as Burst of Speed: casting one ends the other. That is the real cost of the skill on a melee Assassin, since the attack speed of Burst of Speed and the defence of Fade cannot be had at once.
The resistance bonus is ordinary +% resistance (the stats are fireresist, coldresist, lightresist and poisonresist), so it counts toward your resistance like a gear bonus does and is still subject to your maximum resistance, see Resistances and Immunities. The physical reduction is a Damage Reduced by % stat, and sits in the defender's order where that stat sits, after absorb-style shields and before your resistance, see Taking Damage.
The curse reduction only applies to curses that land while Fade is active at the moment of cursing; a curse already on you is not shortened by casting Fade afterwards (Basin).
The Basin's page warns that Fade also shortens shrine buffs, and only if it is active when the shrine is taken. Its workaround: override Fade with Burst of Speed, take the shrine, then cast Fade again.
The Basin lists the translucent look as purely visual, and notes mercenaries also turn translucent when it is cast on them through an item.
No synergies: skilldesc.txt has no dsc3 line for Fade and skills.txt has no synergy calc, and Fade feeds no other skill. Every line reads lvl, so +skills from items (and the +1–3 Fade that the Basin says can spawn on exceptional and elite claws) raise duration, resistances, damage reduction and curse reduction alike. Because the resistance and curse curves flatten (64% to 69% from level 20 to 30) while the damage reduction stays linear (20% to 30%), the levels past 20 are mostly bought as physical damage reduction.
Fade never touches a player: it is a buff on the Assassin. The hits she takes from a player are first cut to 17% of their value (difficultylevels.txt PlayerDamagePercentVSPlayer) before her Fade resistances and damage reduction apply, see Player versus Player. The Basin's page says nothing else specific about players.
