Temporarily stun your enemy by bashing it with your shield.
Smite is a level 1 Paladin Combat skill with no prerequisite; it opens Charge. It is a melee attack made with the shield, not the weapon: it always hits, cannot be blocked, knocks the target back and stuns it. Two numbers decide it: the damage bonus, +15% a level, and the stun length, 0.6 seconds at level 1 and 4.4 at level 20.
| Level | Stun Length | Damage: + |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0.60 seconds | 15% |
| 2 | 0.80 seconds | 30% |
| 3 | 1 seconds | 45% |
| 4 | 1.20 seconds | 60% |
| 5 | 1.40 seconds | 75% |
| 6 | 1.60 seconds | 90% |
| 7 | 1.80 seconds | 105% |
| 8 | 2 seconds | 120% |
| 9 | 2.20 seconds | 135% |
| 10 | 2.40 seconds | 150% |
| 11 | 2.60 seconds | 165% |
| 12 | 2.80 seconds | 180% |
| 13 | 3 seconds | 195% |
| 14 | 3.20 seconds | 210% |
| 15 | 3.40 seconds | 225% |
| 16 | 3.60 seconds | 240% |
| 17 | 3.80 seconds | 255% |
| 18 | 4 seconds | 270% |
| 19 | 4.20 seconds | 285% |
| 20 | 4.40 seconds | 300% |
| 21 | 4.60 seconds | 315% |
| 22 | 4.80 seconds | 330% |

| 26 | 5.60 seconds | 390% |
| 27 | 5.80 seconds | 405% |
| 28 | 6 seconds | 420% |
| 29 | 6.20 seconds | 435% |
| 30 | 6.40 seconds | 450% |
The damage bonus is Param3 15 as the baseline and Param4 +15 a level: +300% at level 20, +450% at level 30. The stun is Param1 15 frames plus Param2 5 frames a level, divided by 25 for seconds, and capped at 250 frames (min(ln12, 250)): 0.6 seconds at level 1, 4.4 at level 20, and the 10-second cap is reached at level 48. Both lines read lvl, so +skills from gear count. Mana is 2 at every level.
The tooltip's last line is the table's "always hits" flag: Smite needs no hit check against defense, and the Basin adds that it cannot be blocked when a Paladin uses it and that it always knocks back an eligible target. The stun is a real stun (Hit Recovery and Stun), with the length above.
The Basin's page lays out what Smite's damage is made of. The base is a sum of:
To that sum one combined percentage is applied: Smite's own bonus plus Strength (every point gives +1% whatever is equipped), Might, Concentration, Fanaticism, Heart of Wolverine and non-weapon Enhanced Damage.
Everything that comes from the weapon is left out: the weapon's base damage and its Enhanced Damage, + Minimum and + Maximum Damage, Damage to Demons and Undead, Critical Strike and Deadly Strike, and all elemental damage, including magic, fire, lightning, cold and poison and their lengths. Life and Mana Stolen do not apply either. What the weapon still contributes is its range adder, its speed and its durability.
Enchant can turn the character screen's damage red, but no fire damage is dealt. The Basin's Smite FAQ has the test.
The Basin's page notes a durability quirk: a weapon that reaches 0 durability while you Smite does not break until another weapon attack is used. Life Tap lets you leech through Smite, since the curse is not a weapon stat.
No synergies: Smite has no dsc3 lines and no …SymPerCalc column, and it feeds no other skill. Its two lines read lvl, so +skills from gear raise both the damage and the stun exactly as hard points do. Crushing Blow and Open Wounds on your gear apply through Smite as item effects on a hit; the shield damage from Holy Shield is the only skill that raises Smite's base.
A player's hit on another player is cut to 17% of its value (difficultylevels.txt PlayerDamagePercentVSPlayer) before anything else, see Player versus Player. Smite still always hits and cannot be blocked, and the knockback and stun apply as above. The Basin's page adds nothing else about players.
