How it works

Increased Attack Speed shortens attack animations. Like casting, an attack is a whole number of frames, so speed only changes at breakpoints.

How it adds up

IAS from items is converted with diminishing returns: effective IAS = ⌊120 × IAS / (120 + IAS)⌋.
IAS from skills (Fanaticism, Frenzy, Burst of Speed, Werewolf, …) is added after that conversion, at full value.
The weapon's own speed modifier is subtracted, so a fast weapon base needs less IAS for the same breakpoint.

IAS on a weapon counts for that weapon only. IAS on gloves, a helm or charms works for every weapon you hold.

The breakpoint calculator works out the frames for a class, weapon and skill.
